I found myself asking this question after a few weeks of strict dieting and exercising.

It was a few weeks before summer and I had gained enough weight that my clothes were fitting snug and I wanted to look good for the summer.
Now in my 40s, the weight was not coming off as it used to when I was younger.

Below Are Some Possible Reasons:
#1. Sugar, Carbs, And Salt
You could spend hours exercising, but eating junk food can make getting rid of that spare tire a lot more difficult.
The solution is to cut back on sugar, carbs, and salt and monitor your food intake.

#2. Alcohol
I used to be in the habit of drinking a glass of wine before bed.
Then I noticed after a few weeks of this routine I was going through a couple of bottles of wine every week and gaining weight.

Stress can hold you back especially when it comes to weight loss.

#4. You’re Not Getting Enough Sleep
It’s recommended that adults get 7-9 hours of sleep each night.
Poor sleep can contribute to weight gain because of appetite increase.
The solution is to sleep on a schedule and avoid late-night snacks.
#5. You Might Be Exercising Too Often
This was one of the problems that were causing me to hold on to the belly fat.

It could be that you too are working out too much.
The solution is to work out less and alter the way you exercise.
I now exercise a fraction of the time limiting my weight training to no more than 30 minutes followed up with cardio.
